RIAA PREAMP KIT  The grooves in phonograph records could not handle the deep bass and high treble in live music. The industry developed a standard recording curve and the missing sounds were compensated for by circuitry in playback preamplifiers. The R.I.A.A. (Recording Industry Association of America) set the standard for the "RIAA curve". Today amplifiers are designed for flat response and they make the old phonograph recordings sound very flat. Using an RIAA preamplifier compensates for today's flat amplifiers exactly as the old phonographs were able to do. This kit duplicates the RIAA curve accurately; at a kit price. Operation on 9 to 12 V. DC.

PLL Tuned FM-Stereo Transmitter. Top of the Line! The finest in Stereo transmitters, and latest technology. A two board FM Stereo Transmitter kit with the best possible features that our designers could think of. In addition to very clean, accurate stereo reproduction, the PLL tuning provides stability that is simply not available in most transmitters. Unit has an LCD display with an EEPROM memory to retain frequency setting even if powered down. Listen on your Walkman, or any stereo FM radio in your home or car. The top board is the controller, with the keypad switches and LCD readout. The bottom board is the transmitter, employing an NJM2035 for the stereo generator, buffered tuning from the PLL for quiet performance and an RF amp stage on the output. The circuit can be tuned in 5K steps, for fine tuning. You will want to use a very "clean" power supply for this circuit; batteries (12 volts DC, at least 75mA.) are a perfect source of power. Or, a well filtered power supply to be sure to eliminate power line hum. This circuit can broadcast any line-level input, such as a computer sound card, CD player, tape player etc. far enough to provide excellent reception around an average house and yard. Instructions for a low cost FM antenna are included. The top board size is 5 1/2" long and 3.3" in width; the finished unit fits neatly into a Philmore No PB170 plastic case (which is not in the kit, sold separately). While a VOX is often used to activate a sound recorder, it may be used to trigger an alarm (the mike easily picks up vibrations in windows, wall or door), activate a video camera, radio transmitter or simply turn on a light. The relay will release after a few seconds of silence, holding as long as sound continues. (Hold time may be changed up to 30 seconds) Operates on 12V DC and very low current.

UP/DOWN COUNTER The kit is a low cost counter, counting from 0000 to 9,999 or down from 9,999 to 0000. The overflow output pulses low when the count wraps to zero; so, two counters could be connected together to make an eight digit counter. The clock input is debounced to prevent problems when using external mechanical switches. Operation on anywhere from 9 to 15 volts DC and 20 to 40 mA (depends upon how many display segments are lighted). The AT90s1200 is preprogrammed; builder is not required to program anything. There are five pairs of pins for external connections: RESET, CLOCK, DOWN, DISABLE, OVERFLOW. A Down connection sets the unit to count down. A Disable prevents counting at all; Resets sets the counter at zero (0000), Overflow outputs a pulse low when the counter reaches 0000. The Clock contact will pulse a ‘count’, and each time a switch connected to Clock is ‘on’ the unit increments a digit. The maximum speed of counting is a bit more than thirty per second. The display is red LED digital 0.6" high.

DC Motor Speed Controller Kit

Vary the speed of DC motors the very best way with this kit. Gearboxes can be costly and series resistors may cause stalling. This circuit delivers the voltage to the motor with pulses and the speed is controlled via pulse width modulation (PWM). The speed control is a potentiometer, for DC motors up to 100 Volts at a maximum of five amps.

Variable Power Supply Kit

A very basic power supply that can be adjusted over a range of about 1.5 to 35 volts DC. If you add a heat sink (included), you can run it as "hot" as 2 amps output; otherwise about 60mA @12 volts. This is a textbook circuit using an LM317, which is a 3 terminal regulator in a TO-220 package. Input can be either AC or DC; DC input must be at least 2.5V above the required voltage output. You could use a surplus transformer from 12 volts up for input.

COMPLETE VARIABLE POWER SUPPLY The kit comes "complete", which means the transformer A.C. power cord and a fuse holder are included. Most power supply kits leave finding such things to the builder. Output via screw terminals, making this a good bench supply for the kit builder. Voltage may be varied from a volt up to about 24 volts DC and is well regulated; i.e. voltage is very stable. Using the LM317T I.C. and including the Philmore TR241 (24 volt, 1 amp) transformer permits an output range from about a volt to 21 volts. Higher current is available at the higher voltages but lower voltages are at lower currents; for example, around 5 volts output maximum is around 350 mA. Maximum current is available in the 18 to 22 volt range. Ripple (on line noise) is finite, making this a good kit for those audio and R.F. projects where you do not care to hear power line noise.
